Good morning,

I hope all is well.

Here are the main overnight news and market movers.

Economic Calendar: Swiss KOF, US house prices, Chicago PMI, and Fed minutes in focus

In Switzerland, the KOF will release its economic barometer for December at 09:30 CET. The consensus expects a slight decline to 101.4 from 101.7 in November.

In the US, S&P will publish the Case-Shiller home price index for October at 15:00 CET. The consensus expects a 0.1% increase versus the previous months. Should house price inflation moderate further or even deflate, it would make the Fed more comfortable cutting rates, given the lagged impact on the shelter CPI.

MNI will publish its Chicago Business Barometer for December at 16:45 CET. The consensus expects a slight improvement to 39.6 from 36.3 in November. The series is more volatile than the all-important ISM manufacturing PMI and sometimes lags it.

The main event, however, will probably be the release of the minutes from the December Federal Reserve monetary policy meeting at 20:00 CET. At that meeting, the FOMC lowered the target range for the federal funds rate by 25 basis points to 3.5-3.75%.

Good luck today,

Günter
