Australia inflation expectations rise to highest since 2023
The Melbourne Institute's March survey showed Australian consumer inflation expectations rising to 5.2% from 5.0% in February. This is the highest level since July 2023. For perspective, the reading was just 3.6% a year ago, meaning household inflation perceptions have surged by 160 basis points over twelve months. (BBG, TE)
Despite the higher-than-expected print, Australian bond yields declined after the report was published.
